NEIL SCHOONDERWOERD

Neil Schoonderwoerd, 82, of RR1 Sebringville passed away suddenly at his residence on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Neil was born in Leiden, Netherlands on January 8, 1935. Beloved husband of Josephine Schoonderwoerd (de Jong) whom he married on October 12, 1963. Dear father of Ann Schoonderwoerd Garfield (Randy), Paul Schoonderwoerd (Marg), David Schoonderwoerd (Carolynne), Elizabeth Quinlan (Mike), Richard Schoonderwoerd (Shelley) and Stephanie McIntosh (Darryl). Loving "Pake" of Nicole, Lauren, Hailey, Leeah, Jack, Peter, Michael and Anna. Dear brother of Joan Schoonderwoerd, Angeline Swart, John Schoonderwoerd (Cecilia), Maria Sinosic (Bruno), Clem Schoonderwoerd (Joanne), Luke Schoonderwoerd and Martha Moons (Dick). Dear brother-in-law of Joan and Elly Schoonderwoerd. Lovingly remembered by the de Jong family and his many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Jacob and Johanna Schoonderwoerd, brothers Jack, Bill and Tom, sisters-in-law Jane and Mary Schoonderwoerd and brother-in-law Roy Swart.

Affectionately known as "The Chief" by his family. Neil's wisdom and understanding will be profoundly and forever missed. Neil's farm outside of Sebringville was his longtime hobby. He could often be found surveying his crops and tending to his fields.

Neil immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his parents, brothers and sisters. He was involved in silo building and the concrete business for many years. Neil and Josephine purchased the family farm in 1973 where they raised their six children.

Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 1-5 p.m. and on Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kinkora from 10-10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ben Raze - celebrant. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Stratford Perth Hospice Foundation would be appreciated and may be made at Lockhart Funeral Home.com.
