Obituary for Roy Murray Russell

Roy Murray Russell
ROY MURRAY RUSSELL

Roy Murray Russell, 88, of Mitchell and formerly of Russeldale peacefully passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Beloved husband of Shirley Russell and the late Audrey Russell (1967). Dear father of Karen MacDougald (Bill), Joyce Pridham (Greg), Randy Russell (Bev), Loree Skinner (Greg), Susan Horan (Randy), Ronald Elliott (Jeannie) and Nancy Avery (Mike). Dear father-in-law of Doug Francis and Susie Elliott. Loving grandpa of 26 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Florence Russell. Dear brother-in-law of Agnes Russell, Laverne Wallace (Pat), Debbie Renne and Bob Parkinson (Dorie). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his daughter Linda Francis (2012), son Stephen Elliott (2013), parents Ethelbert and Florence Russell, brothers Clarence, Wesley and Lawrence Russell, sisters Kathleen McLeod (Ken), Wilhelmina Campbell (Robert) and Marion Miller (Frank) and sister-in-law Margaret Ann Parkinson.

Roy grew up and farmed on the Russell family homestead at Russeldale until 2012. He truly loved horses and enjoyed participating and winning awards from an early age in both County and IPM ploughing matches. Many great family memories were created when he gave sleigh and wagon rides to "the shack" with his prized team "Duke" and "Queen". He was a loving and caring grandfather who enjoyed attending his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities. He will always be remembered for his smooth dancing, great sense of humour and the way he touched the hearts of many people.

A private family service will be held at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell. Interment in Roy's Cemetery. Memorial donations to Thamesview United Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cancer Society would be appreciated and may be made at www.LockhartFuneralHome.com.
