RUTH KELLY

Ruth Elizabeth Kelly, age 96, passed peacefully on May 30th at Stratford General Hospital. Soul mate and best friend of Stewart Kelly for 72 years. Loving mother to Sharon Kelly (Leon Parry), Nancy Kelly-McGill (Murray Lepard) and Pat D’Agostino (Joe D’Agostino) and caring mother-in-law of Jeannie Kelly.

Ruth was predeceased by husband Stewart, only son Wayne, parents Savill and Catherine Simpson and sister Isabella Dill. She will be missed by sister and good friend Pauline Godward and 6 grandchildren, Susan (Van) Montgomery, Sarah (Steve) Schweller, Caleb (Tobi) Kelly, Jessica (John) Soares, Elizabeth Kelly and Ian (Tiffany) McGill. She will also be fondly remembered by step- grandchildren Elisha (Ian) D’Agostino, Laura (Steve) D’Agostino and Melissa D’Agostino.

Ruth was the proud great-grandmother of Seamus and Daisy Kelly, Lachlan Montgomery, Jasper Soares and Gigi Ruth to Hunter, Harrison and Hugh McGill.

Ruth is mourned by several nieces and nephews.

She was the consummate wife, mother and homemaker. Ruth was able to transform every house into home quickly. She wrote in one of her journals that she dreamed about motherhood and that motherhood made her less selfish, more focused, kinder and above all, accomplishing this while keeping a sense of humour. She also expressed that she would not exchange motherhood for all the careers and riches in the world.

Mom loved music and to dance. She taught us to laugh, cook, sing, whistle, be true to our partners and develop core values that have made us better individuals. She was a supreme entertainer/hostess not just to family, but friends.

Ruth had a wonderful ‘joie de vivre!’ We feel blessed and enriched to have had her in our lives.

The family extends its’ sincere gratitude for the care and respect provided by the staff at Wildwood Care Centre for the last 4 years. We are also so grateful to the care-givers on the Medical Unit of Stratford General Hospital that made Mom’s transition seamless.

A reception will be held at the Lockhart Reception Centre, 116 Montreal St., Mitchell on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. with words of remembrance starting at 2:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or United Church Women’s Group in Mitchell.

“You are gone, but thank you for all the soft, sweet things you have left behind in our homes,
in our heads and in our hearts.” (Nikita Gill)
