Obituary for Murray Drummond

Murray Kenneth Drummond
September 9, 1953 – March 1, 2023

Murray Kenneth Drummond, of Mitchell, Ontario, embarked on his journey to the spirit world on March 1, 2023, in his seventieth year.
Predeceased by his father Gordon (May 30, 2009), his brother Donald (September 20, 2020) and his beloved mother, Margaret (McKay) Drummond (August 16, 2022), whom he missed dearly over the past decade and has finally rejoined.
Murray was born in Stratford, Ontario, raised in Mitchell and attended the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, where he made many life long friends. His adventurous spirit drew him to western Canada, where he excelled in a management position at the prestigious Lake Louise Inn near Banff, Alberta before moving to Vancouver, B.C. There he became a key member of the five man, world class sand, snow and ice sculpting team, the Sandemons, that travelled the globe and won multiple international sculpting championships from California to Quebec to Dubai. He returned to his hometown in 2007, where he resided until his passing.
Murray had a keen eye and a sharp wit and never hesitated to express his opinions in a colourful and humorous way. He was very intelligent and driven, as well as mischievous, and lived his life to the fullest, even as his disabilities began working against him in his later years. He certainly made a huge impression on anyone that got to know him and many that didn’t. His numerous exploits will be fondly remembered by those close to him. He was a lover of animals and a champion of the underdog, always willing to help those less fortunate.
According to Murray’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date amongst his surviving friends. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered at Wreck Beach in Vancouver, his favourite party place.
Special thanks to the staff at Ritz Lutheran Villa that understood him and put up with his antics, especially Sue, Tibin and his close friend Nicole, who expressed: “It was a gift to know, care for and spend time with this special man… Murray shared with me a different perspective on life, educated me with random facts and is someone I will forever cherish.”
Good bye my friend.
