Obituary for Mary "Marie" O'Rourke (Nagle)

Marie Josephine O’Rourke (nee Nagle), age 94, of Mitchell passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on January 17, 2022.

Beloved wife of the late William O’Rourke (1992), loving mother of Mary Anne Lealess, Patti Maloney (Mike), Tom O’Rourke (Manuela), Michelle Dixon (Ron), and Paul O’Rourke (Dianne). Grandmother to Rob Lealess (Shannon), Bill Lealess, Scott Lealess (Jill), Emily Hanif (Richard), Kristin Reid (Clark), Connor Maloney, Melissa Boken (Brian), Sarah O’Rourke (Chris), Joe O’Rourke (Jessica), David Dixon, Darren Dixon, Jack Dixon and Jannea O’Rourke. Great Grandmother to Charlie, Rilynn, Tamaya, Ava, Aksel, Gus, Ethan, Brynnlie and Sullivan.

Predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary Ellen (Stapleton) Nagle and her brothers Len and Earl. Remembered by the O’Rourke and Nagle families.

Marie was an independent woman who was ahead of the times as she graduated from business school and owned her own car before getting married. She was a working mother, while raising her 5 children and helping to operate the family farm north of Dublin. She enjoyed her nights out with Bill, either bowling, dancing, or playing euchre with their friends. She would be a familiar face to many people in the area as her career included working at St. Patrick’s School, Dr. Lorimer’s Office, the Mitchell PUC, Mitchell Co-op and Dolmage’s Feed Mill. She was on the Catholic School Board, a member of St Patrick’s and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic churches and a long time member of the CWL. Marie was feisty and determined until the end, as she was still able to watch one last game of her beloved Maple Leafs, who were able to pull off a win for her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kenyon for helping to keep their mother in her home all these years. Thanks also to Dr. Walji and the nursing staff at Stratford General Hospital for their care and concern over the last week.

A private family funeral Mass will be held and may be viewed at LockhartFuneralHome.com on Sunday. A burial will be held in the spring. Memorial donations to the Stratford Humane Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
