Helen Ahrens, 91, of Mitchell, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Ritz Lutheran Villa. Beloved wife of the late Ivan Ahrens. Dear mother of Patricia (Michael) MacRae and John McGrath. Loving grandmother of Kurtis (Yvonne) MacRae, Marcy (Randy) Mueller, Denise O'Leary and Joseph MacRae. Dear sister of Marian Pullman, Jack McLlwain, Ken (Lois) McLlwain. Adoring great grandmother of Memphis & Monica MacRae, Cole & Kaylin Rose, & Rhyse Mueller, and Owen & Kassie O’Leary. Dear sister-in-law of Donna McLlwain and Vera Ahrens. Fondly remembered by her special step-daughter Carol Parent and step-granddaughter Jenna Parent. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, friends and the community.

Predeceased by her parents Harvey and Ida McLlwain, brothers Jim McLlwain, Larry McLlwain, sister-in-law Audrey McLlwain, grandson-in-law Jeff Rose and her first husband Edward McGrath.

She was a talented seamstress that led to her employment at Seaforth shoe factory, Arrow Shirts, Kroehler Furniture & Canadian Fabricated Products where she worked for over 20 years before retiring in 1989.

She was an avid card player, with a great sense of humour, loved having dinners out with her friends, keeping in touch on Facebook, reading, doing crossword puzzles, cooking and baking. She was an independent and educated woman who liked to keep up on technology and world events.

Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Lockhart Reception Centre. Spring interment in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Mitchell. Memorial donations to the Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
