HECTOR LOUWAGIE

Hector Joseph Louwagie, 89, of RR3 Mitchell, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 3rd, 2022.
 
Beloved husband of Cecile Louwagie.  Dear father of Peter Louwagie (Sharon), John Louwagie (Mary), Christine Mills (Brian) and Ingrid Donnelly (Tony).  Loving grandfather of Shaun, Jenny, Stacey (Cole); Cindy (Adam), Karen (Jake), Nancy (Brett), Charlene (Andrew); Jason, Kyle; Senan and Maeve.  Cherished great grandfather of Norah and Claire.  Dear brother of Joe Louwagie, Leon Louwagie (Beatrice), Gabrielle Capoen and Rita Capoen.  Dear brother-in-law of Christiane Louwagie, Leona Vandewalle (Gerry), Monique Louwagie and Andre Lebleu.  He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews in both Canada and Belgium.
 
Predeceased by his parents Michel and Madeleine Louwagie, grandson Jamie, brothers George and Paul, sisters Maria, Godelieve, Ida, Germaine, Jeanne, Simonne, sister-in-law Alice, brothers-in-law Willy, Eddy, Fernand, Camiel, Marcel and Paul, father-in-law and mother-in-law Leon and Marguerite Opsomer.

Born in Alveringem, Belgium, Hector moved to Canada in 1955, working in the lumber camps in Northern Ontario. He returned to Belgium in 1962, where he met and married Cecile and they started their life together in Canada. A proud dairy farmer, Hector remained active in farm life until his later years. He enjoyed travelling, was an avid reader and appreciated a good joke. His kind and gentle nature will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

 
Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The family requests that those attending the visitation wear a mask and register online at LockhartFuneralHome.com or by calling the funeral home at (519) 348-8643. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dublin on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Philip Joseph - Celebrant (registration not required). Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Dublin. Memorial donations to St. Patrick’s Church Building Fund, Dublin or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
