Emma Rauser, 91, of Mitchell, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on April 12th, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Rudolf Rauser. Loving mother of Annamarie Murray (David), Mark Rauser (Janice) and Don Rauser (Carol). Cherished grandmother of Marilla Murray (John), Emily Murray (Paul), Maggie Murray (David), Will Murray (Sarah), Brandon Rauser (Thao), Jessica Overbeeke (Gavin), Bryan Rauser (Natalia), Keagan Rauser, Megan Rauser (Spencer) and Jacob Rauser (Monique). Great-grandmother of Mia Murray, Cora and Ian McDonald, Heidi and Charlie Shallard, and Myers Overbeeke. Dear sister of Roesli Hornlimann, Margrith Badertscher (Alfred), Annamarie Gloor and Jacob Jufer (Anni). Dear sister-in-law of Ursula Jufer of Switzerland and Wilfried Rauser of Guelph. She will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews in Switzerland and Canada.

Predeceased by her parents Walter and Emma Jufer, sons Peter and David, brothers Ruedi and Paul, brothers-in-law Paul and Otto, and sisters-in-law Rosina and Stephanie.

Born in Heiterschen TG in Switzerland, Emma grew up as the oldest girl in a farming family. She knew the meaning of hard work and making do with what you had. Cooking and baking were passions developed in her early years while working in various households and in the kitchen of a children’s home. Her adventurous spirit propelled her to answer a personal ad from a young farmer in Canada looking for a wife. She sailed for Canada in September 1957 ready to build a life here with Rudy. Raising a family, farming, gardening, being involved in the local Swiss community and being a good neighbour made for a rich life. Upon retiring to Mitchell, Emma and Rudy enjoyed a variety of travels. They particularly enjoyed their road trips with their small camper throughout Canada and the US, dipping their toes in the Arctic Ocean as well as the Gulf of Mexico. Her grandchildren have fond memories of excursions, sleepovers and baking days with Grama. As the grandchildren grew up and lived their lives, Grama learnt how to use the iPad to keep in touch. Once the great grandchildren started to come, she revelled in photos and videos of the next generation. Our Mother and Grandmother was a great example of how to live life fully and well.
