Obituary for Edward McGoldrick

EDWARD MCGOLDRICK

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Edward McGoldrick of Monkton, formerly of Arthur, passed away on May 11th, 2022 at the age of 68 years. After a diagnosis of cancer, Ed fought like an Irish boxer to the end, until his angels peacefully took him home after 18 months.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy (Savage) of whom they shared life for 42 years, just celebrating 39 years of marriage in April. He literally swept her off her feet on the dance floor when they first met, two stepping and waltzing were of the many passions they shared together in life.

He adored and deeply loved his two daughters, Melissa (Joe) Snowden, and Amanda (Phil) Metzloff who will remember him with love, laughter and were truly blessed to call him Dad. A hero, a teacher and a protector, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his girls. Always making sure the oil was checked in their vehicles before a drive, was one of the ways he ensured they were loved and taken care of.

He felt blessed by his two sons-in-law, Phil and Joe that love his daughters as much as Ed loved them. He was truly fortunate to call them friends and have them in his life.

Ed will be missed deeply by his one Grandson, Jackson Snowden. The apple of his eye, and his little buddy whom loved to help his Papa cut the grass, play table hockey, basketball and other games they enjoyed together. Ed loved to watch Jackson play hockey and baseball, always cheering him on encouragingly. He was so proud of the young boy Jackson has become.

Ed is remembered lovingly by his sister Marion McGoldrick of Fergus . He was forever grateful for her visits with him and still mustered the energy for teasing and joking with each other till the end.

So fondly remembered and loved deeply by his Mother-in-law Marnie Savage of Stayner. He was embraced as a son instantly. Everyone joked that Ed could never do wrong in her eyes.

Cherished by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, who have countless memories and stories of their Eddie. Dianne (Savage) Burk of Barrie, Cathy (Savage) and Mike Hasz of Orangeville, Lori (Savage) and Gary McCaslin of Erin, Lisa (Savage) and Dennis Carroll of London.

Loved and adored by 10 wonderful Nieces and Nephews, and 8 Great Nieces and Nephews.

He will be sadly missed by his many cousins and relatives, as well as friends he made throughout his entire life. Ed had touched many people’s lives and was truly fortunate to have so many people touch his.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Leo McGoldrick and Norine (Cassin) McGoldrick from Arthur, his brother Terry McGoldrick of Fergus, his father-in-law and best friend George Savage of Creemore, and his beautiful niece Rachel Carroll.

Ed was a kind, gentle, hard working man, always wanting to help others out. He enjoyed many things in life including going to the family cottage in Dorset to help build things, fix things, and go fishing with his Father-in-law George. Ed always embraced the memories made there over the years. His favourite pass time was to tinker out in his barn where he would create tools to make any job easier. We called it modifying.

Ed was a member of the Monkton Kinsmen for a few years and always enjoyed his time and fellowship with them all. He made some wonderful friends and great memories.

Ed worked for Advanced Dairy in Wellesley for 21 years until he took leave in 2020 due to his illness. He always enjoyed work especially the last few years being in the shop fixing motors and other equipment for the farmers . One of his motivators during his fight was to get back to work and enjoy those days again. He will be remembered and dearly missed by all his fellow coworkers. He loved a good laugh or joke, and kept the young lads on their toes.

Our family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Lappano for his years of care and compassion, especially in the final stages of Ed’s fight. Gratitude and appreciation are also extended to the Care Partners nurses for their help and guidance, allowing Ed to remain at home. Dr. Hahn, Dr. Bainbridge and the oncology staff in both London Health Sciences Centre and Stratford General Hospital were also a major part in giving Ed more quality time with his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lockhart Funeral Home Reception Centre, 116 Montreal St, Mitchell on Thursday, May 19 from 1:00- 3:00pm, followed by Words of Remembrance from 3:00-4:00pm. Masks are kindly requested and encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the HOPE Chapter for Cystic Fibrosis, or charity of ones choice.
