Obituary for Clara Keller (Altenburger)

CLARA KELLER

Clara Keller, 91, of Mitchell passed away peacefully at the Ritz Lutheran Villa on Friday, February 4, 2022.

Beloved wife of the late Willy Keller (2012). Loving mother of Willy Jr., Kurt (Pat) Keller,Ted (Donna) Keller, Susan McNaughton, and Rick Keller. Proud grandmother of Jason, Jarret, Chad, Adam (Kristy), Deon (Jenelle), Angie (Reed), Jamie (Sarah), Brendon (Raven), Leslie, and Amanda. Cherished great grandmother of Addison, Benjamin, Emily, Theo, Bode, Aveya, Rylah, Elli and Maxine. Sister-in-law of Marianne Altenburger and Rosa Keller. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Hans and Clara Altenburger, brother Hans Altenburger, brother-in-law Ted Keller, sister-in-law Clara Apecechea (Frank) and son-in-law Jim McNaughton (2016).

Anyone who knew Clara knew her love of family, animals and always knew they would be leaving her house with fresh buns, homemade jam (made with berries from her garden) or staying for a meal if you were visiting.

Clara brought her Swiss-German cooking and baking to Canada when she migrated here in the early 1950’s, and was the best at it! Her house was a place that loved ones gathered at and was filled with homemade food, laughter and love because that was what brought her joy. She loved hosting and showed her love for others by sharing meals, stories and keeping traditions alive. Everything on her table was made from scratch and with love.

Clara also had a green thumb and had the most beautiful gardens, plants and flowers which now live in her children and grandchildren’s gardens - she is with us wherever we are. Clara’s passion for creating was a staple in her life - she sewed hats, mittens, and more for her grandchildren every year for Christmas!

Even though Clara took care of everyone around her, she always loved spending time with her husband of over 60 years, Willy. She also served on many boards, councils, committees and was passionate about making positive changes for her community. She served on Fullarton Council, Perth County Farm Safety Association, and on many Boards including Mitchell and District Arena Board, Mitchell and Area Mobility Bus, West Perth Long Term Care Planning Committee, OMAFRA, Ontario Pork Producers, Ontario Pork Congress, Mitchell and District Credit Union, Perth County and Ontario Federations of Agriculture and the Perth Police Services Board. Clara was a never-ending source of knowledge, she had the answer for anything and some members in the family refer to her as “the Google before Google”.

She loved singing in the Swiss choir and had many friendships that all started from singing together, her family loved seeing her sing in the choir as well.

Clara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and loved member of the Mitchell community. She will be dearly missed and her legacy will live on through her family, friends and community forever.
