Obituary for Annie Evelyn Dench (Dow)

Annie Evelyn Dench (Dow)
Annie Evelyn Dench passed away February 4, 2018.

Evelyn was born April 1, 1923 to Richard Campbell and Marie Dow of Russeldale, Perth County, Ontario. She attended Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, sang in the choir of Mt. Pleasant United Church and attended Mitchell High School. Evelyn graduated from the Stratford School of Nursing in 1943 and was employed with St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sarnia until she retired in 1988. After retirement, Evelyn moved to Toronto to be with her sisters Edna and Eloise. She was the last surviving member of her graduating nursing class.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Mary (Kosta) and grandson Michael and her sister Edna and her brother David and nephew Jason Dow (Susan). Her siblings Eloise, Albert and Ken predeceased her.

Evelyn treasured the friendship of Lillian MacIntosh, Virginia and Jim Arnold, Alfie Schiestal, Blanche Ellenor, Shirley Hick, Cathy Culleton, Irma and Nicole Seager. Verna Helps, and her son Steve and his wife Michelle and their children Ashley and Harley were a special joy to her heart.

Evelyn enjoyed travelling, reading, crosswords, and baking Christmas cookies. She missed Sarnia and the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital. She loved nursing and fondly recalled her years working on the 4th floor north at St. Joseph’s.

Evelyn was a devoted grandmother to Michael, lavishing him with lots of love and devotion.

Special thanks to Drs. Kuszewski, One Care Medical Clinic, Sunnybrook Drs. Wong, Stroud and Vanner and Dr. Sisi Li. Their kindness and compassion was greatly appreciated. Also thanks to the staff at Scarborough General Hospital, ER, Acute Care and the Palliative Care Departments who made Evelyn comfortable in her long, hard battle with leukemia and lung cancer. Many thanks for all your help and compassion.

Visitation be held at the Lockhart Funeral Home at 109 Montreal Street, Mitchell, Ontario on February 12, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ralph Van Oostveen officiating.
